Pencil and Brick
Architect-led home renovations, extensions and design and build in London
About Pencil and Brick
Pencil and Brick is an architecture and construction practice based in Brick Lane. It began with its first architectural project in 2012 and launched a construction company in 2019 so its team could build its own designs. The practice works on residential projects for London homeowners, with architectural design available on its own or as part of a full design and build service.
The team includes architects, construction directors, builders, estimators and a build project manager. Work can start with a measured survey and feasibility study, then move through planning, technical design, detailed pricing and construction. Homeowners can use the design service without committing to the company’s build team; the practice can also provide a shortlist of builders.
For design and build projects, the company develops detailed pricing before technical design and coordinates the design and construction teams. Its stated work includes sustainable refurbishments, extensions, loft and basement conversions, with a focus on period homes and adapting them for contemporary use.

What customers say
Pencil and Brick were a pleasure to work with. They were clear and quick in communications. They helped us prioritise when compromise was required, and are honest and direct.
It’s been excellent working with Seán and Matt on the renovation of our house. They listened closely to what we needed and developed thoughtful and exciting designs that responded to our brief and budget.
The project was well planned and executed, and I received regular updates and feedback from developments on site.
